Five Ways To Display Your Pins

Five Ways To Display Your Pins

This blog post was written by staff member MJ Wallace

One of the downsides (some would say the only downside) of having a baller enamel pin collection is not having enough places to display them all! If your denim jacket is looking pretty full, here are a few fun ideas for other places to show off your style!

Hitch them on your hat!

Beanie hats are a great option for this, as you can attach them to the folded-back brim and not have the pin-back in contact with your head, but many hats could be good candidates for pinification! Could you see yourself bedazzling your bucket hat or beret?

This pic from the HOYFC archives shows some now-retired items (HOYFC beanie hat!) as well as designs that are still going strong like our Too Tired To Party, Boss Lady and Bright Colourwheel pins.

PS: If you attach any of our pins to a cowboy hat, please send us a pic 😍

Button them to your Bag!

Bags are also an excellent location to show off your pin collection! You could put them on a shoulder strap, or on the body of the bag. Tote bag, backpack, market bag... so many bag-guiling options!

Park them on your Projects as a Needle Minder!

This option requires a little DIY, but can give you a bunch more options for displaying and using your enamel pins. Remove the metal spike from the back of the pin, and glue a strong magnet there instead (and keep another magnet of the same size handy). Now, you can attach your former-pin to your cross stitch or embroidery projects as a needle minder. The magnets on either side of the fabric hold the needle minder in place, and magnetise the design so your needle sticks to it and doesn't get lost when you put it down.

This also lets you display your pin collection on any magnetic surface, like your fridge! And while it now lacks the spike and pin back that made it an enamel pin, if you use strong magnets you can still attach it to your lapel if you fancy wearing it like old times (just be careful not to put it anywhere it could easily get jostled off and lost).

Latch them to your Lanyard!

If you wear a lanyard for work (or any other reason), pins are a really fun way to customise it. With lanyard materials typically being very sturdy, and the fact its in front of you, it's also a (fairly) safe place to display pins without risk of them falling off. Hurray!

Put them on a Pin Display!

To get the most effective bang for your buck (or, in this case "display space for your dollar"), a dedicated pin display might be the solution you're searching for! Some folk display their pin collections on an old-school cork board, but you can also buy or make super cute fabric pin displays. The downside: not as portable as other options. The upside: Your beloved pin collection can be part of your home décor, and be shown off to family, friends and random delivery-people!
